Prepare NinjaTrader
Goal: get NinjaTrader 8 itself into a clean, ready state before Matrix Systems ever touches it. This is the step most people skip and later regret.
On this page
Prerequisites
- NinjaTrader 8 already installed and able to open normally
- A NinjaTrader account connection you can log into (Sim is fine for preparation)
- A few minutes where NinjaTrader isn't actively trading, so a restart won't interrupt anything
Don't have NinjaTrader yet?
Download it directly from NinjaTrader before you continue with this guide. Get NinjaTrader →Preparation steps
1
Update NinjaTrader if prompted
If NinjaTrader shows an available update, apply it before installing Matrix Systems - starting from the most current platform build reduces the chance of a compatibility surprise.

Expected result: NinjaTrader reports it's up to date, or finishes updating and reopens normally.
2
Back up your workspace
Use File → Utilities → Backup to save your current NinjaTrader configuration before adding anything new.
This takes 30 seconds and means any surprise is always reversible.
Expected result: a backup file is saved to a location you'll remember.
3
Confirm your connection
Make sure NinjaTrader can connect to your data/broker connection (Sim101 is sufficient for setup and testing) before importing anything.
Expected result: the connection indicator shows connected, not a red/disconnected state.

You're ready when...
NinjaTrader is current, backed up, and connected. Nothing about Matrix Systems has been touched yet - that's the next page.Common mistakes
Installing mid-update
Starting the Matrix Systems import while NinjaTrader is still applying its own update can leave both processes in a confusing state. Let one finish before starting the other.NinjaTrader won't connect
This is a NinjaTrader/broker connectivity issue, not a Matrix Systems one - check NinjaTrader's own connection status before proceeding. Troubleshooting Guide →
